And so the festivities are well and truly over. Larry and I celebrated with our own little New Year’s lunch yesterday – roast beef, mashed potatoes with green onions and cooked carrots (meat and veg – how very Irish of us!) followed by raspberry cheesecake (sugar and calories – how very decadent of us!). Of course an hour later Larry went to the gym and I picked up a book. Start as you mean to go on, I guess.
Anyway, today I went around and rounded up our very limited Christmas decorations only to have a whole bunch of cards delivered around lunch time. Ah An Post, how I do love your always timely deliveries. Anyway, it occurred to me while I was wandering down to the post box that I treat our apartment building very much like a dorm. I roam the halls with wet hair and slippers, I have no problem answering the door in my jammies and god forbid anyone tries to make eye contact before lunchtime. All that’s missing is a vaguely creepy priest living downstairs and a little desk requiring Larry to hand over some ID before being admitted to my bedroom and it would be like college all over again.
ohh, still getting used to the new site, ut a delight to get back to reading. Happy New Year and Happy Anniversary! Just thought I’d share my favorite college days comment on the parietals system, voiced during an intro to women’s studies course, of course: “Not for nothing, but it’s not like I can’t get my business done before 12 on the weeknights and 2 on weekends.”
LOL! I once opined that I didn’t believe it any safer for a woman to go to a men’s dorm and there being no record of her having been there, but I was told that “safety wasn’t the issue”. Funny, that. But perhaps we shouldn’t start such discussions all over again…
