Could you please tell me if you find Dublin to be a safe city?
Sure. Personally, I do find Dublin to be a relatively safe city. Of course this could be coloured by the fact that I live smack in the middle of a triangle comprised of two police stations and an army barracks, but I’ve never had any more trouble with crime here than I have in any other city.
Dublin is a small city and organised crime does seem to be on the up (drugs, prostitution rings, etc.) but for the most part as long as you use common city sense and stay away from areas known for crime then I’d imagine you should be fine. However, I would say that by “common city sense” I mean remaining aware of your surroundings, not wandering along obliviously on a mobile or with music on, crossing the street if you don’t like the look of someone, inspecting the safety of ATMs/cash points before you use them, walking home in a group rather than by yourself, keeping an eye on your purse/wallet, etc. Crime does happen here, like anywhere, so you should take precautions to try to stay safe from it.
That said, yes, I have seen my fair share of hookers, drug dealers, teens stealing random stupid crap from corner stores and the like. I do not routinely fear for my safety, however, or the safety of my home. So if you’re coming to visit I’d just say come on over, have fun and use common sense.
Then again, that would be my same advice for most places.
Hi,
Having been brought up in Dublin, I would say that Dublin is a relatively safe city. Like any other larger cities you will also have some level of crime. If you follow your common sense and don’t go to far of the beaten track I would imagine that you should be ok. A good piece of advice is make sure that you do not stand out as the tourist as petty criminals can always spot them!

Ooh, good point Ned!
And yes, everyone, wearing any form of clothing with the words “Ireland” or “Dublin” on it probably points out a tourist.
