Ah! The bliss of being in my own home and on my own computer. Never underestimate it!
Anyway, first things first. I was officially sprung from the hospital and it seems that I very likely (like, 98% likely) have a condition known as myasthenia gravis. A lot of times it is classified as a type of muscular dystrophy and, basically, it’s an autoimmune disease that causes muscle weakness. In my case it’s likely related to a very enlarged thymus gland which is actually a good thing because the thymus apparently doesn’t do much for adults and taking it out helps about 70% of myasthenics who had an enlarged version.
We’re still waiting on some last tests results and in the meantime I’ve got some heavy duty medicine to test out, but it seems likely that I’ll have a thymectomy sometime before the spring. While there are a few thymectomy options, due to my age and the likelihood that I’ll live a good long time the minimally invasive procedures aren’t recommended. Broken breast bone here I come! No, seriously, I’m totally on board with this because I want the thing out and I want to know that all of it is out. If I could do it tomorrow I would!
So, in summary, we’ve got a few weeks of waiting and some meds and then after that we’re looking at surgery and Sue becoming my slave. I mean, helper. Not a bad deal.
Broken breast bone!? Ouch! If I can do anything to help, let me know!!
Oh, Beth, I’m so shappy (sad + happy)! Sad, of course, that you’re sick and going through all this, but happy that there’s a definitive treatment (hopefully!) in sight! Lots of happy thoughts and warm, fuzzy vibes going your way xx
I’m glad you got a diagnosis! Good luck with the surgery!
Glad you’re home and finally have some answers. Also happy to hear that it’s a condition you can receive treatment for.
All the best!
Yay, treatable condition!
Ditto! Yay for treatable condition. Glad you’re back, Beth.
I am so glad that there were results and that this is treatable!!
I’m so happy for you. I can only imagine the relief you feel from having an answer. I totally know how much it sucks to know something is wrong but have absolutely no explanation.
Good to know that the condition has been identified. I couldn’t think of a better slave!
