I’ve been working through my masses of emails and loving every minute. Some are wild, some are weird but they are all wonderful!
I have come across two recurrent themes though. The first – even when researching myasthenia people are having some trouble understanding what its actually all about. The second – they want to know how can they help.
First things first then. I took a little look around and found the perfect link for basic information on myasthenia. This little slideshow breaks it down so well I’m pretty sure it could be used in secondary science classes. Bonus: there are actually pop quizzes in there so pay attention.
Next, I want to thank everyone for their offers of help. I really don’t need much right now and there’s no need for care packages from anywhere in the world. Just keep sending emails to entertain me and I’ll let you know if and when anything more would be appreciated. Also, for those who will be around me in real life I found this (kind of sappy) information on how to help myasthenics. The basics of it are pretty good, but I guess I could have done without Aunt Sally, Cousin Bud and the quadruple exclamation points.
Now, some excellent news. I got my medicine, took the first dose about an hour ago and feel great. I literally felt my droopy eyelid raise and stay up. I hope that’s the strangest sentence I ever have to write, but it’s true! Also, I’ve come to understand a significant perk of being ill in Ireland – consultants here tend to train elsewhere. While this may not seem like something to celebrate, it really is. It means that I now have resources from most of the major English speaking countries where Irish specialists train (think United Kingdom, Australia, Canada and the United States). This is in addition to access and resources I might need for medical stuff within the European Union. Not too shabby.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I seem to have a little strength to spare(!) and there’s a shower that’s not going to scrub itself. It’s shocking how happy I am to be able to tell you that!
Yay for working meds! Looks like the docs really got it right this time…
from the ‘other’ Laura S…
just don’t overdo yourself – pace yourself, baby..pace.
But YAYYYY for extra energy and i truly hope it helps!!!!
Thanks Lauras!
